Gordon "Gordy" Robertson djgreedyg@reggaefans.co.uk Musical Expertise - Collector of both Jamaican and American black music for over 20 years. Only buy represses and affordable (ie under $100/£50) tunes these days due to financial restrictions. Have over 2,500 45s and 5,000 albums. Sometimes DJ here and there. Have a podcast at djgreedyg.podomatic.comLocation - Northumberland, UK - about 25 miles from the largest city in the area, Newcastle Upon Tyne. Computer expertise: Know my way around Windows, the internet, online radio. Know how to set up basic websites and message boards. Currently out of work due to illness (and the North East UK being a crappy place for opportunities anyway). Live with thousands of records and some tropical fish. Relationship status: They come and go, music always gets in the way. Women just don't get my obsession.... Here to maintain the message board, add details of 45s from my own collection and give info on original American pieces to Jamaican tunes.

Matt Johnson
Location: Luton, Bedfordshire, UK
Musical expertise: Hmmm. Buying music since 1968, reggae since about 1974, about 9,000 reggae 45s, 1000 12" and 600 or so albums - 98% original pressings, mainly UK. Non reggae about another 150% of that, so a roomful of records. Ex-DJ (pro from '81 to '84, some radio), mainly soul/funk and started buying older Jamaican music when I stopped the DJ-ing and settled down around 1986. Play out reggae occasionally, sometimes public, mainly parties for my extended family and their friends and their friends' friends etc.
I don't personally know anyone in the group; have met Enthucol and Tim P, but I'm very low profile.
Computer expertise - all Microsoft Stuff, VB, not much database experience, but understand the fundamentals of programming very well as I program control systems for SPM's myself for a living (part of it).
Own 1-man business designing control and instrumentation for Special Purpose machines, but more project management these days.
Family life complicated, 4 kids, married at the moment.

hi
second post for me.The name is Rey, i hail from Paris. tastes : from mento to hardcore dancehall (when it shows originality) favourites styles : from ska to early reggae - also current bands. music : not only as a collector ( i rarely spill the beans as i tend to follow the netiquette quite strictly but some people here know what i do), well, i am more a gatherer of tunes i like rather than a collector - a bad word in my book! : no idea how many i have on any format, but a lot of plastic (black, coloured or silver).Several unindentified ones ! i corresponded with Robert for several years and he was always helpful : i have kept most of his messages ! we traded some music and ideas through the years. he was a valuable, humble person, always a plus in my book. i have the second version of RKR, plus a cd-rom Bob sent me for review : unfortunately, i have never been able to open the updates ! other activities linked to JA music : helping people link up, be they artists, fans, tour agencies, producers, labels.Yeah, i know some people get paid for this but i don't : i consider myself lucky enough with my situation, so if i have the right connections, why shouldn't other people benefit from them ? In this regard, i don't take part in most french fora : too many delusions, backbiting, ego tripping, betrayals and backstabbings ! peculiarities : in the 90's, i started setting up discographies of certain labels i enjoyed from that period. Given the huge output from the 80's on, i have some doubts about the success of a comprehensive list encompassing all eras of JA music, but why not ? some absessions about certain themes and historical background of JA music (foreign originals, mento influence, certain topics found in lyrics and such) minus points : i am lame when it comes to computer technology !

Hi all, This is me: Christopher Edmonds christopher@rebelmix.com Kingston, Jamaica Currently run a digital distribution company (www.rebelmix.com) based in Jamaica and Florida- our content focus is Caribbean music and media. Before returning to Jamaica I was a software and database developer at Stanford University. On the music side, I was a DJ and ran a sound system for many years in Jamaica, then Miami, then San Francisco, and I am an avid collector- about 20,000 12" and LP titles, and about 10,000 7" titles- the 12" and LPs are probably about 40% reggae, 20% soca/calypso, 40% house/dance/hip hop/r&b/etc. 7" are mostly reggae. Some of you may remember me from various inane rants on RMR

I'm just a Reggae fan / humble collector Been collecting since mid 70's, gotten in a lot of hoops of fire as well as gotten lucky at the right time linking with people and stores. But still looking for more tunes, but unenployed at the moment. My tunes have outlasted my past relationships, and i know a fair bit of Reggae not elongated as people make me out to be. My era of collecting is from ska to early to mid Dancehall (analog stricly) always looking for more knowledge and learning.

I run the small Soul of Anbessa roots label (from Switzerland), which brings me to Jamaica almost every year, and led me to work with a lot of my musical heroes. I also take pictures, make some videos and write (mostly in french), and gather everything on my website. I have been collecting records for about 15 years, with a main focus on 70s roots. I also studied the developpment of reggae music in my country for my master degree in contemporary history. Looking forward to learn more, and hope to be able to contribute too !

Mick Herrity: Irish, collector and selector.
Like so many attending a Jah Shaka dance sometime in the 80's was a turning point for me getting seriously into the music.
Currently writing about how reggae impacted ( or not) into Ireland.

UPDATED:
Gordon "Gordy" Robertson
44 years old in a couple of months' time.
My 45s collection has only had a few hundred additions to it but my albums are now near the 7,000 mark (more music for your money).
Still have the podcast but it's sporadically produced these days - although I'm going to be starting a new show in a couple of weeks' time on a site called Reggae Airways Radio from 12 midnight til 2am UK time on Saturdays.
Location these days is Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England.
The fish have gone but I now have a male tabby kitten called Marvin aged 15 months.
Also co-owner of two Lhasa Apso puppies called Ruby and Tamara but one of my stepdaughters is claiming custody of them......don't ask!
Hope to play out again this year - still on the mend from major surgery.
Relationship status: in a relationship for 4 years now, been engaged for 3 and 3/4 of them, getting married once finances allow.
Current job situation: Unemployable.
Current hobby: Accidentally alienating everyone who has ever had time for me due to them not understanding the ups and downs of mental health problems. Also constantly raising awareness of said problems as they affect many of us, just some people would rather sweep it all under the carpet and not talk about it.
Anyway not here to rant (thank God I hear you say!) - here to provide and receive information on records.
Gordy

Hi there.
Andy Lambourn (aka Andy Capp at Pama; Charlie Chalk everywhere else!)
I'm 55 for a few more months.
I've collected reggae since 1970. I specialise in UK pressed 7" from the '60s & '70s, and together with Marc Griffiths, maintain my own discography database. Like Phil, I'm a little obsessive, and my own 7" collection runs to around 40,000 singles, of which well over 30,000 are reggae.
I'm a regular contributer on 45cat, and I'm a member of the Trojan and Pama Forums. I sell reggae 7" weekly on ebay (iloveoxfordutd) every Thursday night.

Alex Herbst aka StranJah / Frenchie
stranjah@gmail.com
Current Location - Sao Paulo, Brazil
Musical Experience - It all started in the late 80's in Paris, France where I got a hold of a Studio One cassette full of Ska. I eventually discovered who some of the artists were and started buying records of names mentioned of sleeves i.e. Drummond, Mittoo, McCook, Jackie Opel etc.. I bought records for years without having a way of listening to them but I was just fascinated by what I could read on the back covers. Alternately, when CD's first came about I started looking for the titles I had on wax in the CD sections. I eventually moved to Chicago in the early 90's and got a turntable and more records. A friend invited me to go to JA for a few days, he had bought group tickets for some 10 pals and eventually one could not make it but was all paid for. Since he knew the love I had for the music, I went. Of course they were going to rage it in Negril and after one day there I decided to take a bus from Savanah-La-Mar to Kingston. I wasn't going to spend 5 days in JA without trying to hunt down some of the places (studios and streets) I had heard about!! Upon arrival at the bus terminal by the market place downtown Kingston I wondered the streets without having a clue where to go, and as an outsider trying to "blend in" I walked in the same direction half the bus was heading. This is where I ended up on Parade, King & Orange streets. I walked into Randy's about 7:30pm and met Lone Ranger and his pal Chester Synmoie. Obviously I was amazed and they took good care of me. I ended up staying him and started to go about 2-3 times a year for almost 15 years. Moving to Brazil after 9-11 I sold records for a few years and now residing here I have helped out with visas and shows for several veteran artists.
I had the honor to meet and guest DJ on Benja's WHPK radio shows in Chicago along with a few other gigs and also met Mike Turner in Brazil while on tour with Ranking Joe & Digital Dubs.
Guest DJed on the reggae vibes show roots & culture section on WLUW - Loyola Chicago.
I am a Studio One fanatic but collect from Mento to 90's dancehall mostly. I am a fan of Son, Cumbia & Calypsos from around the world.
6000+ 7" and about 2000 LP's of Jamaica music
I've been privileged over the years of gathering Original Reel To Reel recordings from Studio 17 / Randy's among other gem I treasure. Some are real serious recordings and takes other are just split audios such as Mighty Diamonds - Right Time for example.
I am looking forward to reason with some of you and contribute to the database as much as possible.

The two first reggae records i bought was Burning Spear- Social Living and Dennis Brown - Words Of Wisdom bought at Tempo Skärholmen in my native Sweden, so I guess I started of rather well quality wise. So my formative years was shaped by what was aviable recordwise, not much really apart from virgin/island/greensleeves. On the other hand reggae was "big" and your neighbour might very well attend a Peter Tosh or Linton Kwesi Johnsson gig. I had a small reggae magazine at the time and one off my fond memorys are trying to interview Joseph Hill of Culture. Asking nerd questions about Joe Gibbs releasing Babylon Bridge when you have a contract with Pottinger. And getting the answers I deserved. -I must have been asleep and they took me to the studio Some thirthy years later reggaemusic is still close to my heart. I dont love all reggae, but most off it i guess. I love singers, I love a heavy bassline. I love harmony. and most of all I love the good humour of many JA artist.
